Major Preparation Requirements

Required courses

  • One year of college level Spanish and Portuguese (or an indigenous language of Latin America)
  • Two or more courses from:
    • History of Latin America (colonial)
    • History of Latin America (modern)
    • Latin American cultures
    • Sociocultural anthropology
    • Cultural geography
    • Contemporary world history
    • World literature
    • Comparative politics
    • Economic geography
    • Microeconomics
    • Macroeconomics
    • Introductory sociology

Note: One year of high school in which the primary language of instruction was Spanish or Portuguese may be used to satisfy the language requirement for admission purposes. Completion of two years of college level foreign language is strongly recommended. 

 

* Students are classified as Pre-Latin American Studies until lower division preparation courses are completed at UCLA.
