About the Program
The Bruin Ambassador Program is a team of current UCLA students employed by the office of Undergraduate Admission. Ambassadors play a key role in the recruitment of future Bruins from high schools across Southern California. This is an exciting paid position with opportunities to build your resume, work with prospective students, and gain professional experience for your career.
Applying to the Program
We will start accepting applications on Wednesday, November 29, 2024, and the application deadline is Friday, February 7, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Required Responsibilities
- Be available to conduct and facilitate 2-3 school visits per quarter
- Based on your availability
- The number of schools assigned varies by year
- Be available to conduct and facilitate a minimum of 2 college fairs per quarter
- Based on your availability
- Be available to staff a minimum of 3 check-in shifts per quarter.
Check-in shifts offered:- Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Monday – Friday 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Reserve one office hour per week for projects, updates on requirements, responding to emails/communications, and other duties as assigned
- Attend mandatory weekly staff meetings on Tuesdays from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m.; exceptions will be made for class scheduling conflicts
- Additional quarterly requirements, such as specialty information, training, committee meetings, etc.
- Attend mandatory annual trainings (see dates above)
- Assist Undergraduate Admission with on-campus events, such as tour presentations, student panels, workshops, live-chat sessions, social media projects, and special events such as First-Year/Transfer Bruin Day, Fall Open House, STOMP Conference, Cub Day, etc.
Eligibility
- Must be a full-time UCLA student enrolled in 12 or more units
- Must have minimum overall GPA of 2.75
- Must attend new hire onboarding: Friday, April 4, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 5, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- Must attend weekly new hire training every Tuesday: spring quarter weeks 1-7, 7:00 p.m.– 8:00 p.m.
- Must attend one-hour weekly meetings throughout the academic year: Tuesday weeks 1-10, 6:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
- Must be available for an in-person interview on one of the days between Wednesday, February 19 - Friday, February 21
- Must attend First-Year Bruin Day on Saturday, April 12, 2025 and Transfer Bruin Day on Saturday, May 10, 2025
- Must attend fall training: Monday, September 22, 2025 - Wednesday, September 24, 2025
- Must attend Fall Open House on a Saturday in October 2025
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- If you plan to study abroad during Spring 2025 or Fall 2025, or you take a Resident Assistant position with UCLA Residential Life, you will not be considered for the position
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Must be responsible, articulate, flexible and committed
- Must be detail-oriented and work well independently
- Must be comfortable speaking in front of large groups
- Familiar with the UCLA campus, knowledge of admission procedures, and general knowledge of academic requirements and helpful resources
- Experience with the above qualifications is preferred
- Must be comfortable driving in Los Angeles. Also, you may travel to Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and/or Orange Counties
- Desire to join a diverse team of leaders across campus
- Desire to work with prospective students from first-generation, low-income and disadvantaged neighborhoods
Commitment and Compensation
As an ambassador, your commitment to the program begins at the end of winter quarter and extends until June of the following year. You may return to the program every year until graduation pending review.
You will be expected to make your assigned high school visits in a timely manner, sign up for area college fairs, participate in events sponsored by Undergraduate Admission and other priority campus events. Additionally, there will be encouraged, but optional, opportunities over the summer to conduct high school visits, attend college fairs and participate in other special events through Undergraduate Admission. You may even be able to visit your hometown high school.
Ambassadors will be required to drive to in-person school visits and college fairs, up to 50 miles away. Owning a car is not required. If ambassadors do not have their own vehicle, Undergraduate Admission will pay for students to rent a university vehicle to attend work events. If students are using their own vehicle for travel, Undergraduate Admission will reimburse students for gas plus wear and tear on their vehicle at 70 cents per mile.
The position typically requires 3–9 hours per week. These hours can fluctuate based on the quarter, with fall and spring being busy and the winter being slower. Pay is $17.30 per hour.
