Health Insurance

All students are required to be enrolled in a qualified health insurance plan in order to register at UCLA. Undergraduates are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) unless they waive the coverage.

Enrolling in Health Insurance

Undergraduates are automatically enrolled in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) unless they waive the coverage.

The cost of coverage through UC SHIP will be included as part of your Student Services Fees. You’ll receive more information about UC SHIP with your first BruinBill.

If you already have health insurance, see if your current plan meets the university requirements by visiting the student health insurance website. If your plan does meet the requirements, you can complete an online waiver so you won’t be enrolled in UC SHIP. A waiver must be completed every academic year, so if you have a qualifying insurance plan and successfully waive UC SHIP in the fall, no further actions will be needed until the next academic year.

Regardless of what insurance plan they have, all UCLA students have access to Ashe Center services, but small fees apply for services rendered. BruinCare is a program that gives students who have waived UC SHIP prepaid access to certain services at the Ashe Center.

Visit U See LA Optometry in Ackerman Union for all your eye care needs. They're an extension of the Ashe Center, offering comprehensive eye exams and a wide variety of eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses.
